Who should attend the conference?

Black Voices in Coaching Research Conference was intentionally developed as a tangible response to the 2021 call to action by Roche and Passmore. Recognising the pressing need to rectify the underrepresentation of Black authors and researchers in academic coaching and coaching research, this event aligns with their call for initiatives that foster diversity, equity, and inclusivity in the coaching ecosystem and encourage diverse voices and perspectives within coaching publications. The Black Voices in Coaching Research Conference is intentionally designed to actively contribute to this call by providing a platform for meaningful and bold dialogue, sharing valuable cross-cultural knowledge and cultivating actionable strategies for the global empowerment of all Black academics, coachers, researchers and not just those located within westernised contexts. By addressing the challenges outlined in the call to action, this conference aspires to catalyse positive change, advocating for a more inclusive and representative academic coaching community, and global coaching ecosystem.

How can I make the most of the Black Voices in Coaching Research conference?

1. Set Your Goals

To get the most out of your decision to come to the conference, decide what you want to get from your conference experience and what you want to learn. Perhaps your goal is to chat with speakers, coaching practitioners and researchers. Every connection offers the possibility of learning something new.

2. Do your Own Research

Once you have your goal, find out about the conference’s purpose and speakers. Who are they and why might they have been invited to speak at the conference? What might you learn from them? Who else might be going to the conference? Check out blogs and social media channels.3. Plan you ScheduleConferences can be very busy events and it’s often not possible to attend all of the sessions that you might have planned to attend.  Keep in mind your Goals and what you want to gain from the conference and be willing to course correct if that is what’s best for you.

4. Pack Smart

Take everything that you’ll need to ensure that you’re comfortable.

Essentials might include comfortable clothes and shoes, business cards, notebooks and pens, laptops or tablets, chargers and power banks, water bottles and snacks, and any materials or samples that you want to share or sell. You may also want to bring some extra cash, a travel adapter, and a backup plan in case of emergencies or changes.

We have a team who are dedicated to supporting you, please get in touch if you have specific requirements that have not been covered in our FAQs

5.  Be an Active Delegate

It can be tempting to stay in your zone or on your phone!  Yes, it’s important to keep your purpose firmly in your sights and you may be someone who finds it difficult to begin conversations.  There are things you can do to make the most of your conference experience

  1.  Try not to sit in the same spot throughout the conference. Change your seat, change your perspective.
  2. Set yourself a goal of speaking to as many people as possible each day or perhaps make a friend for lunch or tea breaks.
  3. Plan questions that you might want to ask, either in the public forum or during a private chat.

Don’t forget it’s your conference experience and there is everything to gain!
